LORI ANN KENNEY ARTIST STATEMENT
I am drawn to
transformation—to the possibility that something worn, forgotten or
discarded can be given another life. Through making, I seek a
language that is intuitive and cohesive, where surface, material and
form hold traces of memory and speak to both the fragility and
resilience of the world we inhabit.
My work begins with
discovery: found objects, fragments, textures, human-made detritus,
and reclaimed textiles. I am drawn to their histories and
possibilities, and to the quiet wonder of encountering something
unexpected. Through pattern, texture, form, and structure, I
re-imagine these materials into new relationships.
My
process is one of deconstruction and reconstruction. I cut, stitch,
layer, arrange, and experiment, allowing the materials and the
process of making to guide the work. Decisions are intuitive, shaped
by memory, accumulated experience, and the evolution of past
works.
In the studio, I sift through fragments of both
material and experience, making sense of the visual noise and
ecological uncertainty of the world around me. What begins as chaos
gradually finds rhythm, balance, and form.
