Lori Ann Kenney holds a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art +
Design. Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions
throughout Vancouver, Vancouver Island, and Japan.
For
over 30 years, Lori has built a distinguished career in costume
design and creation for film, television, and theatre. This extensive
experience has fostered a deep understanding of textiles,
materiality, structure, and craftsmanship – knowledge that
continues to inform her artistic practice.
In 2008, Lori
moved to the Comox Valley, where she transformed a former trucking
workshop into a large, open, light-filled studio. The studio has
become an integral part of her practice: a private space for
experimentation, reflection, and the development of interdisciplinary
work. Here she sifts and sorts through collected textiles and , past
experiments, photographs and personal archives of memory.
Her work evolves through conceptual tropes and intuitive processes of deconstruction and reconstruction, material exploration and mark making. Through these methods and approaches, she interprets and reflects on ecological geological and cultural processes embedded in the landscape, as well as the spiritual and poetic dimensions of the natural world.
